French beans can be dwarf or climbing. The climbing types need some form of support – e.g. a wigwam made out of eight 8ft bamboo canes – and will produce beans throughout the whole growing season. Dwarf types are simpler to grow as they need no support, but must be sown on three different dates to ensure a continuity of supply.
