When deciding which tomato varieties to grow there are two big decisions to make:

• What type of plant do you want? Indeterminate (cordon) varieties are tall plants that will need support and must be pinched out; determinate (bush) plants are less work as they need no pinching out and no support, but they may be less productive and often not quite so good tasting.

• What size, shape and colour you want the fruit? Tomato fruit vary enormously between varieties.
