Most pumpkins and winter squashes are large plants, growing long, trailing vines and will need plenty of space in the garden. Seed should be sown in May into small pots or a module tray, and plants transplanted outdoors when the roots have filled their pots. Fruit are ready for harvesting in the autumn.
