Pancalieri endive
£2.20
A bitter-leafed salad crop showing long, deeply-indented leaves with frilly edges.
Description
Cichorium endive
A good-yielding, bitter-leafed salad crop. The loose heads are composed of long, deeply-indented leaves with frilly edges. Plants vary between prostrate and semi-prostrate, and are partially self-blanching. Older, larger plants can be cut at ground level for a single harvest. Alternatively, multi-harvests of baby leaves are possible from young plants managed in a cut-and-grow-again system.
Pancalieri is partially self-blanching, though more dependable results can be achieved by laying a dinner plate on top of larger, older plants. Alternatively, the leaves can be bunched together at the top and tied with a string.
The plants are easy to grow outdoors, and we’ve gotten good results from both April and July sowings, for outdoor crops, and from a September sowing for growing overwinter in a polytunnel.
Approx. number of seeds per pack: 400 seeds
