Capsicum annuum

Found in both Turkish and Asian shops, Bullet is a medium-sized, cone-shaped chilli with medium-thick flesh. As they mature, the fruit change from green to red, reaching about 70cm in length and measuring a respectable 35,000 SHUs in heat.

The plants are both very prolific and early. They grow into manageable plants are about 65cm wide and 65cm tall when grown in 7.5 liter pots.

Bullet chillies are defined by their culinary versatility: they can be used as a substitute for jalapeño chillies, or cut up and fried when they are either green or red. Alternatively, they can be treated like the Padron chilli and eaten whole as a 'mangetout' chilli. To eat them mangetout harvest young green fruit when they are between 5 and 6cm long,  fry them in hot oil until the skin blisters, and eat whole with a bit of salt. But be aware – unlike the Padron all the fruit are likely to be quite hot, so if you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!
