Description
Brassica oleracea
Hybrid.
Ironman is a distinguished calabrese variety renown for its large, good-quality heads. The spears have a uniform dome shape and are made up of fine beads, and are harvested from June to November. Plants also produce side shoots of smaller spears that grow after the main spear is harvested.
Sow from late March through to July into modules or seed tray and transplant when seedlings are well grown. Space plants 30x30cm each way. Harvest by cutting flower shoots (spears) when they are well formed but before the individual buds begin to open. Harvest from June to November.

Note: There is often a confusion between the terms ‘calabrese’ and ‘broccoli’. ‘Calabrese’ is the correct name for large, green spears like Green Magic and Ironman, however supermarkets now tend to call these spears ‘broccoli’. ‘Broccoli’ is actually the vegetable that produces much smaller spears, which can be purple or white, and are generally grown overwinter for a late winter/early spring harvest, i.e. purple sprouting broccoli and while sprouting broccoli.
