Hybrid. A distinguished calabrese renown for its large, good-quality heads.

Compared to Green Magic, (which we also sell), Ironman matures a little later and produces only a modest number of side shoots after the main head is cut. However, it has proven its worth over the years, and has been given an Award of Garden Merit by the RHS as well as a ‘Best Buy’ accolade by the Which? Gardening magazine.

Note: There is often a confusion between the names ‘calabrese’ and ‘broccoli’. In fact, ‘calabrese’ is the correct name for large, green spears like Green Magic and Ironman. ‘Broccoli’ refers to the vegetable that produces much smaller spears that can be purple or white and are generally grown overwinter for a late winter/early spring harvest.
