Description

Capsicum chinense

The small, roundish fruit of Coffee Bean measure just 6 to 8mm in diameter. They mature from green to red, and look like miniature coffee beans when ripe. Reflecting their habanero background, they are very hot and dominated by a strong, pleasant aroma.

Because they are so small, aromatic and hot, the fruit can be used in ways that push culinary boundaries. For example, they can be lightly crushed and added to a bottle of vodka; smashed to a paste and used in Thai som tom salads; and cut in half and mixed with cabbage and salt to make sauerkraut with attitude.

The plants are short and bushy, and can be grown unsupported in pot 1 to 5 litres in size.
