Description

Capsicum chinense

As ferocious as they are fragrant, the deeply grooved fruit of Jamaican Jerk are very hot and smell sweetly of oranges.  They mature from green to a sprightly orange-yellow and measure about 3 to 3.5cm in diameter. Originally found in London’s Brixton market, this is the natural choice when cooking Caribbean dishes.

The bushy plants are medium tall and need support so that they won’t fall over.  Other than that, they are quite undemanding and can be grown in the ground, grow bags, or pots 7.5 to 10 litres in size.

Heat level: very hot (approx. 105,000 SHU)

Note: this chilli can be very difficult to germinate. We have added extra seed, but even then only experienced growers should attempt to grow this variety from seed. We do sell plug plants of this variety in the spring months (see www.seaspringplants.co.uk)
