Description
Capsicum frutescens
We aren’t sure if this is the genuine Tabasco chilli or just a credible facsimile of it. Either way, it’s a pretty good producer of hot, thin-fleshed fruit that measure about 8 x 30mm. The fruit mature quite late in the summer, changing from a yellow green, to orange and finally red. Harvested when red ripe, they can be put to good use making hot sauces.
The tall, shrubby plants are best grown in the ground or pots 7.5 to 10 litres in size. They can become top heavy, so give them some support so that they don’t fall over.
Heat level: very hot (approx. 178,000 SHU)
