Burpless Tasty Green
An indoor or outdoor cucumber that has a superb flavour and crunchy texture – and is genuinely “burpless”.
Hybrid. The plants produce elongated fruit with a dark green and slightly spiky skin. The skin is tough and should be peeled off before eating, but don’t let this put you off – with the skin is gone, the flesh is superbly crunchy and distinctively sweet, making the effort of peeling worthwhile.
The plants produce both male and female flowers, so the fruit should be picked young – when they are about 30 to 35cm long and the seeds still small, tender and unobtrusive. If the fruit are allowed to grow larger the seeds inside will mature and become tough.
Plants do well both indoors and outdoors. Indoors they can be pruned and trained to grow upwards, allowing the fruit to hang down and grow straight. However, this variety can also be grown successfully outdoors, where the vines can be allowed to run along the ground. In this case, the fruit are likely to grow bent.
Some people find eating cucumbers causes wind. Apparently, Burpless Tasty Green cucumbers are different and can be eaten without any side effects – hence the name.
