A standard American cucumber well adapted for growing outdoors, producing short, good tasting fruit.

Description

Cucumis sativus

Marketmore 76 is a standard American variety adapted to outdoor conditions. It produces dark green, elongated fruit that should be harvested young, when they are about 16–17 cm long. At this stage, the seeds are still small and tender, though the skin is tough and will have to be peeled before eating. The plants have more mildew resistance than other varieties, and they hold their leaves longer into the growing season.

Outdoor cucumbers are summer vegetables better adapted to sheltered locations in the south of Britain. Even then, they are a bit of a risk if the weather turns cool. They can, however, produce a nice crop of fruit when the conditions are right, and are certainly worth a try when there is no other option but to grow outside.
