Lactuca sativa

This is a non-heading lettuce with green, deeply lobed leaves with crinkled edges. The plants look disarmingly like endive, but don’t be put off – it just means they have all the looks but none of the bitterness.

Cancan also has claimed resistances to mildews.

Whole, mature plants can be cut for a one-time harvest (spaced 30cm apart), but you can also sow seed closer together and make multiple harvests of ‘baby’ or ‘teenage’ leaves in a cut-and-grow-again harvesting method.
