Little Gem

Description

Lactuca sativa

A miniature cos-type lettuce with firm, crisp heads and blistered leaves, that are juicy, crisp and sweet. This is – for good reason – a popular variety that has proven its value over the years.

Plants should be spaced about 20cm apart for the production of full-sized head. However, Little Gem is also a good variety for cut-and-grow-again harvests when seed should be sown closer together.

Little Gem, though, is not suitable for late autumn harvested crops as in cool damp weather it is susceptible to downy mildew. Nevertheless, for outdoor plantings made at other times of the year, Little Gem is still one of the best.
