Description
Allium cepa
This is a dual purpose onion that can, in the first instance, be sown throughout the spring and summer and harvested at any age as a green-topped salad onion. Alternatively, sowings made in February or March can be grown as a bulbing onion main crop that is harvested in August. They produce elongated, red bulbs that are ideal for cooking. As good as they are, the bulbs have a rather short storage life and are best used before Christmas.
