Carouby de Maussane

A productive mangetout pea with beautiful purple flowers and particularly large, edible pods.
Mangetout pea / tall plants
Description
Pisum sativum
A tall-growing mangetout pea producing large, flat pods that are eaten whole, when the embryonic peas inside still undeveloped. The pods are mildly sweet with a strong ‘pea’ flavour. The pods measure up to 10 cm long, making them significantly longer than other mangetout varieties.
If the pods are picked regularly production will continue for a long time. Like all mangetout varieties the pods cannot expand like other pea types, so if they are not picked when the embryonic peas in the pods start to swell the pods become distorted, tough and unpleasant to eat.
As an added feature of this Carouby de Maussane, the flowers are a beautiful decorative two-toned purple.
Sow seeds from the beginning of April to mid-June for outside crops. Alternatively, sow in September for overwintering in tunnels or greenhouses. Grow in double rows about 25cm apart, leaving 7.2cm between plants within the row. Plants are tall and need to be staked or trellised.
Approx. number of seeds per pack: 150
