Tasting like a pea but grown as a leafy vegetable, pea shoots are delicious, easy to grow, and quick to produce – a great addition to salads and stir fries.
Sow from spring to autumn, and harvest the shoots when they are young and tender. In the garden, sow seeds thickly by spacing them 2 to 3cm apart in bands 10cm wide, leaving 30cm between bands. Alternatively, broadcast in compost-filled containers.
Harvest the shoots when they are 15 to 20cm tall, leaving a 5cm stubble to regrow.
