Hybrid.  If you want both high yields and good taste in a classic tomato, then Akron is an excellent choice.  The tall-growing plants produce copious amounts of deep red fruit on heavily laden trusses.  

Akron was the best producer in a trial conducted by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2013, when it was given an Award of Garden Merit. And then, in 2019, Akron was the second best yielder in a Which? Gardening trial. The fruit were highly rated for taste in both trials.

Indeterminate (cordon) growth habit.

• The RHS trial rated the taste of Akron as ‘excellent’. The Which? Gardening tasters were split, with some favouring it more than others. Nevertheless, the fruit were rated 4 out of 5 for flavour and 5 out of 5 for texture.
