Bon Bon

A winter squash whose bright orange flesh is distinguished by its superb eating quality.
Description
Cucurbita maxim
‘Bon Bon’ winter squash produces reasonable yields of dark, olive green fruit decorated with lighter grey stripes. They are slightly flattened and have a ‘button’ or ‘cup’ at the bottom end. The fruit are good-sized, with the largest ones measuring about 17cm in diameter and weighing approximately 1.9 kg. The thick, orange flesh has a sweet, honey-like taste, and is delicious when roasted like potatoes; used to thicken sauces and gravies; and made into pies and tarts.
Because the trailing vines can grow up to 5 metres long, the plants need plenty of space to grow.
